Christmas Cookies are sold throughout New Zealand in the six weeks leading up to Christmas. Each year the campaign hothouses a new generation of young Kiwi entrepreneurs, recruiting tertiary students throughout the country to run their own Christmas Cookies business – in the process gaining experience in sales and marketing, distribution, inventory management and accounting. In short, the campaign represents an intensive short course in business management outside lecture halls and text books.
Christmas Cookies sellers sell and hand deliver the distinctive red buckets of Christmas Cookies direct to the public at their workplaces. In 2011, Christmas Cookies opened a special online store to help rural customers share the festive spirit, as well as a pop-up store in Auckland’s Sylvia Park retail complex.
Christmas Cookies sales also support a cause that counts – with part of the proceeds each year going to the Cookie Time Charitable Trust. This is a registered charitable trust, set up to help Kiwi kids discover their gifts. The Trust is principal sponsor of the Dyslexia Foundation of New Zealand and focuses on two areas: innovation in learning and thinking differently: dyslexia.
To date, Christmas Cookies has raised close to $1.4 million for the Trust, making a significant difference in helping the one in ten New Zealanders who have dyslexia. A huge thank you to all Christmas Cookies fans who help make this sweet contribution possible!
